Ear seed placement maps: how to find the right points for your goal

The most common question people have before their first ear seeding session isn't "do these work?"  it's "where do I put them?" That question matters more than most people realize. Ear seeding works because the ear is a microsystem of the entire body. Different zones correspond to different systems and functions. Place in the right zone for your goal and you're activating a pathway that may support that system. Place anywhere else and you're just wearing jewelry.

This is exactly why placement maps exist, and why every Solstice kit includes them. Here's how to read a placement map, how to find the right zone for your goal, and what the most commonly used zones are designed to support.

How ear seed placement maps work

An ear seed placement map is a diagram of the outer ear divided into labeled zones, each corresponding to a region or system of the body. The map is based on the auriculotherapy framework developed by French neurologist Dr. Paul Nogier in the 1950s, who observed that the ear mirrors the shape of an inverted fetus, with the earlobe representing the head and the outer rim representing the spine and limbs.

When you use a placement map, you're not guessing, you're following a clinically-grounded system that identifies which zone to target based on your intention. Each Solstice placement map is organized by goal rather than anatomy, so you don't need a medical background to use it. You identify your goal, find the corresponding zone on the map, and place your seed there.

The most commonly used zones and what they support

Shen Men — calm and stress relief

One of the most recognized zones in auriculotherapy. Located in the upper triangular fossa of the ear, Shen Men is known as the "spirit gate" in Traditional Chinese Medicine and is associated with calming the nervous system, it may help in reducing anxiety, and supporting overall emotional regulation. It appears in nearly every protocol.

Point Zero — whole body balance

Considered the homeostatic center of the ear map, Point Zero may bring the body back into equilibrium. It supports the body's natural regulatory functions and is often used as a foundational zone alongside other targeted placements.

Endocrine point — hormonal support

Used in protocols that may support hormonal wellness, cycle regulation, and menopausal symptoms. Found in the intertragic notch region of the ear and used in conjunction with other zones for a full hormonal support protocol.

Adrenal point — energy and stress response

May support the adrenal glands and the body's stress response system. Used in protocols for fatigue, burnout, and chronic stress. Often paired with Shen Men for a comprehensive nervous system support protocol.

Tension and pain zones — physical relief

Specific zones along the antihelix correspond to areas of the spine and musculoskeletal system. Used in protocols that may help neck tension, back pain, TMJ, and headaches. Placement varies based on the specific area of tension being targeted.

Ear seed placement for sleep

Sleep is one of the most searched and most researched applications of auriculotherapy. A basic sleep protocol typically targets Shen Men, the sleep zone, and a calming point along the antihelix. Seeds are placed in the evening and pressed gently before bed and again upon waking. Consistency over 3 to 5 days is what builds the cumulative effect, a single night is rarely enough to assess results.

How many zones should you use at once

Less is more. A well-designed protocol uses no more than five zones per session — targeting a specific intention rather than trying to address everything at once. This is a core principle of auriculotherapy: focused, intentional placement consistently applied produces better results than scattering seeds across the ear.

Each Solstice protocol card is designed with this principle in mind, specific zone combinations for specific goals, developed by a certified auriculotherapist and organized so that every session has a clear intention behind it.

How to use the Solstice placement maps

Every Solstice 24k Gold Starter Kit includes printed placement maps organized by goal — sleep, stress, hormone balance, focus, and more. Each map shows you exactly which zone to target for your chosen intention, with clear visual guidance so you can place confidently from your first session.

The free Solstice iOS app takes this further — walking you through zone selection visually, step by step, so there's no guesswork. Open the app, select your goal, and follow the placement guide before you place a single seed.
